A man was arrested Tuesday night in Calwell after allegedly barricading himself in a toilet room for at least three hours. The 34-year-old was then charged with multiple crimes. At around 6.40 pm on Tuesday, November 30, the police received information that a stolen vehicle was being driven erratically in Tugeranong area. Around 8.30 pm, the police allegedly stopped a man inside a toilet room behind Colwell’s shops. Police said expert interlocutors spoke to him and surrendered around 11.30 pm. Following his arrest, the man was charged with a range of crimes, including strangulation, forcible hostage, assault, possessing a knife, and being equipped to commit theft. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Police are still looking for a stolen blue 2019 VW Amarok 4WD utility (ACT registration YNI55C) linked to the incident. Police are urging anyone with information on a vehicle’s whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or through the Crime Stoppers ACT website and quote 6974563. At around 6.40 pm on Tuesday, November 30, the police received information that a stolen vehicle was being driven erratically in Tugeranong area.
Police said the vehicle was located on several occasions, however it failed to stop for police and could not be stopped due to the manner of driving.
Around 8.30 pm, the police allegedly stopped a man inside a toilet room behind Colwell’s shops.
Police said expert interlocutors spoke to him and surrendered around 11.30 pm.
Following his arrest, the man was charged with a range of crimes, including strangulation, forcible hostage, assault, possessing a knife, and being equipped to commit theft.
He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
