A man was arrested Tuesday night in Calwell after allegedly barricading himself in a toilet room for at least three hours. The 34-year-old was then charged with multiple crimes. At around 6.40 pm on Tuesday, November 30, the police received information that a stolen vehicle was being driven erratically in Tugeranong area. Around 8.30 pm, the police allegedly stopped a man inside a toilet room behind Colwell’s shops. Police said expert interlocutors spoke to him and surrendered around 11.30 pm. Following his arrest, the man was charged with a range of crimes, including strangulation, forcible hostage, assault, possessing a knife, and being equipped to commit theft. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Police are still looking for a stolen blue 2019 VW Amarok 4WD utility (ACT registration YNI55C) linked to the incident.
