Car parking spaces will be swapped for people-friendly ones in a Chorlton community project.

Our Streets Chorlton is teaming up with Beach Road Traders and Manchester Islamic High School for Girls on High Lane to swap out its car parking spaces for people-friendly benefits in late November and early December .

The project, titled ‘Parklet of Possibilities’, will see a ‘Parklet’ – a reclaimed car parking space that prioritizes people over cars – set up for people to enjoy and spaces for car storage for people It has also been established to collect the views of the people regarding the idea of ​​swap.

Pauline Johnston, Project Co-ordinator for Our Streets Choralton, said: “Parklet aims to empower communities and get more people to think about re-imagining the streets they live in. It’s impact on the public numbers and private car parking spaces that we currently have in the city.

“We hope that for a short time, Parklet’s establishment will give people a place to stop, enjoy and engage with each other, whether it’s just chat and a flask of coffee and bring their kids together. Play.

“We can also use it as a platform to talk about the bigger issues of car use and the environment.

“We will ask the people of Chorlton to design their own parklets so that we can collect information about what people want to see in spaces, there will be a ‘Chlorton Pound’ shopping voucher award for the best designs – adult and Kids can join in.”

The Parklet of Possibilities will be installed in a five-space car park on Beach Road from Thursday, 25 November to 5 December with permission from a local businessman and PR agency – Democracy – and then moved to the Manchester Islamic School for Girls.
