Coronavirus live updates in Greater Manchester as new rules come into force

Shopkeepers and people traveling by public transport will be asked to cover their faces again from today.

It comes as strict guidance has been introduced following rising coronavirus cases and concerns over the new Omron version.

The tough new rules mean every shopper is now forced to wear a face covering before entering supermarkets, unless there are exemptions.

And the same rules apply to all public transportation as of this morning, Monday, November 30.

This comes amid fears that the new strain could escape existing vaccines and become more permeable.

Retailers will now have the power to turn away any customer who refuses to wear the cover starting this morning.

Responding to this news, school children aged 7 years and above have been asked to wear their masks again in communal places.

The booster rollout has also been expanded to those over 18, halving the wait time between the second dose and the booster jab to three weeks.
