A New York dance troupe promoting radical left-wing causes performed a rendition of “The Nutcracker Suite” at the White House, with First Lady Jill Biden sharing a video of the routine on X. The performance featured Dorrance Dance performers tap dancing through the White House’s festively decorated halls, donning modernized versions of classic holiday costumes.

The performance received a wave of negative reviews, with right-wing and conservative influencers and media personalities criticizing it as “woke” and dystopic. Former President Donald Trump’s former adviser, Stephen Miller, called it “a crime against Christmas,” while Megyn Kelly expressed nostalgia for Melania Trump’s White House holiday decorations.

The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh labeled it “the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” with the outlet’s Ben Shapiro criticizing the group’s support of radical left-wing causes. Other critics characterized it as “horrendous,” “a war crime,” and “Hunger Games vibe.”

Jeremy Carl, a senior fellow at the conservative Claremont Institute, pointed out the dance company’s promotion of leftist causes and Communist Party figures in a post on X. Founded by Michelle Dorrance in 2011, Dorrance Dance strongly advocates for “antiracism” and embraces leftist political principles.

According to a note by Dorrance on the company’s website, they view it as their generation’s “job to tell the history of tap dance as a celebration of Black culture and also the never-ending struggle against systemic racism and white supremacy.” They actively endorse radical left ideologies, introducing concepts like white privilege and advocating the abolition of prison and police on their website.

Some members of the conservative community accused the Biden administration of promoting radical left-wing ideologies through their choice of performance, and insinuated that the selection of Dorrance Dance was not a mere coincidence. Overall, the performance received a barrage of criticism and debate, sparking discussions on the role of politics and ideology in the arts and public events.
