Australia’s biggest electric vehicle (EV) show, Everything Electric, is set to double in size in 2024 due to increased local demand. The show, previously known as Fully Charged Live, has outgrown its previous venue and will now be held at the Sydney Showground in February next year. This expansion comes as a response to the growing interest in renewable energy and electric transport in Australia, with organizers anticipating twice as many manufacturers showcasing their products and providing more test drives for consumers.

According to Everything Electric CEO Dan Caesar, the move to a larger venue will make it easier to accommodate more test drives, with plans to run several thousand test drives during the event. The show’s expansion reflects the increasing demand for electric vehicles in Australia, as indicated by the growing number of manufacturers signing up to participate in the 2024 show.

The organizers expressed relief at seeing the significant interest from manufacturers, particularly from companies such as Tesla and BYD. These manufacturers have made considerable strides in the global EV market, with Chinese brands like BYD making a particularly strong impact with their products.

In addition to showcasing electric cars, the 2024 show will also feature electric bikes and scooters, solar products, battery storage, and energy-efficient appliances. The event is scheduled to take place from Feb. 9 to Feb. 11, 2024, and will offer a wide range of products and interactive elements for attendees to explore.

The growth of Everything Electric comes at a time when Australia has seen a surge in EV sales. According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, over 80,000 new EVs were sold in Australia between January and November 2023, marking a significant increase from the previous year. Tesla remains the most popular EV brand in Australia, followed by Chinese manufacturers BYD and MG, and Volvo.

Consumers’ choice of EV models also reflects the growing market demand, with 27,418 Model Ys and 16,506 Model 3s sold in 2023. Chinese manufacturers, including BYD, also made efforts to capture more of the Australian market, with an EV price war resulting in some models being priced below $40,000 (US$27,000). However, these companies also faced recall problems due to technical issues.

Despite the increasing popularity of EVs, petrol and diesel cars still dominated the Australian new vehicle market, accounting for 92.8 percent of all new vehicle sales in 2023.

The expansion of the Everything Electric show and the growth of the EV market in Australia demonstrate a shifting trend toward electric transport and renewable energy in the country. With increased interest and demand, the 2024 show is expected to offer an even more extensive range of electric vehicles and related products, providing consumers with more opportunities to explore and experience the latest innovations in the EV industry.
